Extending zpool based root fs in freebsd14
Recently configured a Freebsd14 as VM instance under VmWare platform. Configuring the root fs under zfs zpool as zroot with size at 20GB.
Soon, it was not enough, as i kept adding software suites. Decided to add 10GB more into my zpool based zroot. Below, screenshots shows the solution to the situation.
1> Increase the disk size from VmWare VM Instance Hardware settings for disk, increasing it by 10GB. During this time my VM was shutdown.
In case, your VM is running , make use of gpart resize with -i, -s options post partitioning the disk. Example,
# gpart resize -i 3 -s 28G da0
Where da0 is name of the disk, grabbed from
#grep -i scsi /var/run/dmesg.boot
2> Now boot the server and inside the server the disk will start showing extended capacity. This can be checked with command in screen shot. Check the last line of output in this case.
3> Partition the disk using gpart, with elevated previliges used (doas)
